Calling all Worthian Sailors for the 2012 Arrow Trophy Regatta

The 2012 Arrow Trophy Regatta will take place on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October 2012.  If you fancy the idea of competing in this Regatta, or if you know of any Worthian – including this coming summer’s 2012 School Leavers – who might be interested in participating, then please e-mail Olivia Henley at worthsociety@worth.org.uk or Hugo Sunnucks at hugo@sunnucks.co.uk.

You can find out more detailed information about the event on the Arrow Trophy website : http://www.arrowtrophy.org.uk.

The closing deadline for a boat entry is at the beginning of September.

Background Information

The Arrow Trophy Regatta is an open sailing competition for Old Boys and Old Girls teams from UK Independent Schools. The event itself was born as a match racing challenge between Harrow and Eton College about fifteen years ago (thus the ‘Arrow’ without the ‘H’). Now it attracts about 15 schools and around 20 boat entries at the annual racing weekend held in the Solent each October.

The boats used are Sunsail 37′s, needing a crew of seven people, and are chartered from the Sunsail base at Port Solent in Hampshire. The race is an annual weekend Regatta.  On the first day (Saturday) five short fleet races are staged back to back and the top 4 teams from day one go forward to match race each other on the Sunday for the Arrow Trophy. Meanwhile, all of the other boats continue to race as a fleet for a separate prize – the Charterhouse Bowl – with the results of both days counting.

Worth entered a sailing team in the Arrow Trophy Regatta in the four consecutive years from 2001 to 2004. Our best placing was third overall out of eleven boats in the fleet series in 2001 and 2002.

The event is great fun to take part in and includes a prize-giving dinner at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club in Cowes.
