Worthians Real Tennis Club

Welcome to Worthians Real Tennis!

We are really very excited to announce the launch of a new Worthian Sporting Club which is the inspiration of Real Tennis enthusiast Tom Carew Hunt (StB’02).

To launch this new initiative – we will be hosting “An Introduction to Real Tennis” event sometime during 2012, which will give Worthians an opportunity to find out what the game is all about.  It will be hosted at Hampton Court Palace and will be an introduction to the history and quirks of the original racquet sport and, of course, will enable you to get onto the court and try the game out for yourself at absolute minimum cost!

As with all Worthian Sporting Clubs, we are committed to encouraging new members of all standards to ‘give it a go’ – even those who haven’t played before.  If you think you’d like to come along or are interested in getting involved at any level and would like to be added to the Worthians Real Tennis Players’ List, then please do e-mail Olivia Henley at worthsociety@worth.org.uk with the following information :

1)         Your full name, date of leaving and house – e.g. Tom Carew Hunt (StB’02)

2)         Your level of experience and handicap (if applicable)

3)         Your home court (or any significant court played at in the past)

4)         Whether you would like to take part in the ‘Introduction to Real Tennis’ session and, if so, whether a Saturday or Sunday morning (10am-1pm), afternoon (3pm-6pm) or evening (7pm-10pm) session would be better for you.

On the weekend of 21-22nd January 2012, Hugh Bett (B’73) joined Tom to play in the 2012 Schools Old Boys’ Doubles Championships – reaching the final of the Henry Leaf Cup Handicap Division.  The  Worthians were defeated 10-7 by Radley.   On their way to the final, Hugh and Tom overcame stiff competition from Marlborough, Harrow and Bradford Grammar School.   In the main draw, the two Worthians bowed out at the Quarter Final stage, beaten by the eventual winners, Charterhouse.
