The Glenn Robertson Fund
Glenn Robertson was one of those school masters whose very presence had an immense impact on those who had the privilege of making his acquaintance. He was a school master who managed to turn aspiration into reality by his personal commitment, his genuine dedication and his abundant generosity. The enormous attendance levels at Glenn’s Memorial Mass on one of the worst days of Winter in January 2013 – when Worth and much of the country was covered in thick snow – was a fine testament to the depth of love and affection that Glenn instilled in so many of his former pupils and colleagues.
It was very fitting, therefore, that a memorial fund was set up in Glenn’s memory; the brainchild of a group of former Worth 1st XV Rugby players and others who knew Glenn well, who were determined that his contribution to rugby at Worth and the development of so many boys who came under his care should not be forgotten. The fund raised over £26,000, far exceeding all expectations, and covers the following prizes to be awarded annually:
- The Glenn Robertson Prize for Sporting Promise which will be awarded to a pupil in the lower school.
- The Glenn Robertson ‘Spirit of Rugby’ Award which will be awarded to the 1st XV player who has displayed skill and ability but has also maintained all the best virtues of the game.
In addition to this we have been able to provide significant investment in the sporting infrastructure of the School by helping to equip The Glenn Robertson Fitness Suite. This was constructed as part of the Sports Hall extension project and the official opening and formal blessing took place in the presence of Glenn’s wife and sons on Sunday 27th April 2014.
